Aurora Rising – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

From the internationally bestselling authors of THE ILLUMINAE FILES comes an epic new science fiction adventure.

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

Review by Shruti
💫Fact: This book had aliens who didn’t kill human (well, at least not all of them) and I liked it.
Fact: This book had multiple POVs and I liked it.
But wait, ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between. We have a new contender for Fact of the Century. All other facts, please step aside.
Fact: I am going to re-read because I LIKED IT!! I believe that life is too short to be re-reading books when there are so many waiting for a chance and hence only two other (series) has made the exception and this will be the third one!
💫Hold on to your undies, kids.
It is going to be a bumpy ride.
Oh, and what a ride it was!!
Basic blurb: The year is 2380. Tyler Jones, the star pupil can’t wait to draft his dream team, except he ends up with the dregs, no one else would pick:
🌟 A sassy diplomat having a boyfriend list longer than the stars in the galaxy itself.
🌟 A tough, inked pilot who’d do anything for her squad leader, not just because she’s into him btw, in case you’re wondering.
🌟 The hilarious space mechanic (also an alien) you’ll ever meet, whose tricks are good but sarcastic remarks are better.
🌟 An angry space elf who would go to any lengths to protect his b’shmai, even though they might not belong to the same species. Aww.
🌟 A quiet scientist in a relationship with her disruptor.
And then there’s the girl, Aurora, rescued by the leader from her beauty sleep of 200 years, having freaky mind powers and god knows what else.
I was so scared to pick it up after all the hype, but oh boy, I’ve turned into another of the blabbering fangirl who can’t seem to shut about it now. This book is why I love space fiction so much. It has aliens (!!), Wormholes, freaky alien zombies, a masquerade ball and A HEIST!
Unpopular opinion: I loved it more than Illumiane which is saying a lot, because I adored that book.Maybe because of the fact that it took me a little while to get into it. But this had me at the first page.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for a grand space adventure and an even grander characters, you can’t help but help but love. For Maker’s sake, the NEXT BOOK BETTER COME FAST or I’ll go mad in the fold.
