Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless, she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic.

You know, there are some books give you a lot of question marks in your mind on the first two hundred pages and also make you think about guesses to solve that question marks. After that, last hundred pages leave your mouth open, solve all of those marks one by one, pop up different end than expected and open a door for the continuing ones. Caraval is a book like this.
An unidentified person named Legend, periodically organizes a game called Caraval and only who has a letter from Legend to invite a Caraval able to join and play. Other side, our main characters Scarlett and Donatella have written to Legend since they were children and specify they wanted to be a part of Caraval universe. Even if the invitation comes they have to cross the “cruel father” barrier. But they still don’t give up on their hopes. Finally, this effort didn’t go unanswered, Scarlett got an invitation after seven years shortly before her wedding day. And the story begins.
I always give a fifth pages chance to a book that bores me. Sometimes I forced myself for hundred too. But Caraval takes me from the first twenty pages. And when I had just finished, it entered to my top ten. Also, the following books of the trilogy made it clear to stay there forever.
If you want to be surprised, bewildered and bewitched, why are you waiting? Go and get it. Your library deserves this masterpiece.
